Sports massage is the
identification and rectification of problems within soft tissues
(muscles, ligaments and tendons) to aid the body in achieving
maximum potential and performance.
Massage, applied
skilfully, is the most effective therapy for releasing muscle
tension and restoring balance to the musculo-skeletal system.
Received regularly this may assist in the prevention in injury
otherwise caused by overuse. A constant build up of
tension in the muscles from regular activity leads to stresses
on joints, ligaments, tendons as well as muscles. Muscle
imbalances may develop and often go undiagnosed - until there is
discomfort, pain or performance is impeded. Sports massage
can at times be a little uncomfortable especially if particular
techniques are used to break down lesions and separate muscle
fibres that are restricting movement. However, the
benefits include prevention of injury, reduction of muscle pain,
relaxation and a feeling of invigoration and ease of movement.
